If you’re a passionate hiker, Scotland might be one of the best places to visit. With its stunning landscapes, Scotland offers one of the most rewarding hiking trails in the UK – and, according to many, even in the world. Start your hike on the relatively short Loch Lomond trail (around 1 km), which would make for a relaxing stroll through the woodlands.
When you’re done admiring Lock Lomond’s breathtaking sceneries – and if you feel ready for a bit of a challenge, try the Balquhidder to Brig O’Turk hiking trail. The path goes via the picturesque Glen Finglas, immortalised in the famous Sir Walter Scott’s poem, Lady of the Lake, and offers a challenging, though certainly rewarding hiking experience. On your way through the moorland path, before you reach the breathtaking views from the top of the trail, you can enjoy some interesting sites, such as the ruined shielings and the Rob Roy’s Putting Stone, located at the base of Creag an Eirennaich.
Finally, check out the Glen Ogle Trail in Lochearnhead. The rougher path to the top follows an old military road and is equally suitable for cyclists and walkers (as are most other hiking trails). The return route can be very boggy, but the old 8-mile railway line that runs through the glen is surely a hiking trail worth experiencing. When you’ve conquered it, make sure you go for a well-earned pint in the Falls of Dochart Inn in Killin.
If you’re already excited about witnessing the breathtaking beauty of Scotland’s hiking trail, you can book a room at the Clachan Cottage Hotel, located just on the shore of Lochearn. The perfect location ensures easy access to all the hiking trails and additionally provides you with some stunning views of the lake, so you can unwind with a pint after the challenging hike.
